_Ellen, I am pretty sure that's not what he meant.

There have been several knockoffs that I've seen.  There is/was MafiaBot on both Rizon and SwiftIRC (two different bots).  XylBot, which most staff already knows, evidently there's a MafiaZone on another Rizon channel.  The two or three Werewolf game channels that were trying to compete with MafBot.  The list of failures is actually pretty long.

Sorry to gravedig ish, but yea, I used to play in #werewolf on Coldfront all the time before I discovered MafBot.  It plagued by inactivity though, so there was hardly ever a game going.  When there was, the one good thing about it was its themed games, which were actually pretty cool.  It would take a lot of work to add themes to MafBot though  Undecided

MafBot actually has several themes, and new ones could easily be implemented if anybody was actually willing enough to rename the roles, come up with decent colors, and the like.

To stay more on topic, there's also Yank-Game, which is yet another ripoff currently being played on Rizon.  Of course the user count is lower than the average amount of players we get per game.

(First post!)

Honestly, i help run yankgame. There are 2 big difference i see between the both of them. One is that yankgame is WAY easier to figure out. There are only like, 6 or 7 roles that only do ONE thing. Not 14 roles that can do 5 things. Second thing is mafia seems to be more buisness-like where as yankgame is alot more psychological. You need to prove your role, instead of simply not saying anything.

One more small thing is that a full game of yankgame (8 or above) takes WAY less time then a full game of mafia. A demo game of mafia takes more time then a 5 person game of yankgame. Cheesy

Wouldn't that simplicity get old? I enjoy that MafBot's so comprehensive with all of the roles. Yankgame sounds like everything would get so predictable, it'd be no fun after about 5 games.

Not at all. Especially with newer people joining, there's new techniques and stuff people use. Its still really fun. And plus, im working with the creator to add some extra special stuff.  Kiss

Personally I find a big list of actions and roles refreshing as not only will you not know what you get, but there's also a wide variety in MafBot.  Plus the stats are there to ensure that playing like an idiot won't happen very often, and playing wisely pays off not only in score but could be game changing.

As long as we all agree that MafBot is better, it's all good!

We all know that MariaWars took MafBot's idea.  MafBot will eventually be a big hit and hit the video game shelves for whatever systems are out there!
